Dee Thornton Announces Candidacy for Indiana's Fifth District
On July 15th, Dee Thornton announced her candidacy to serve Indiana’s fifth Congressional district. In 2018, Thornton ran against Republican Susan Brooks, and earned nearly 44% of the vote as a first time candidate. That total amounted to over 138,000 votes and was the best showing for a Democrat running against an incumbent in the state of Indiana in 2018.
But this year, the race is wide open. In her speech, Thornton brought her ‘can do’ attitude to the party, promising to find solutions that help every Hoosier in the fifth district. “I have a great appreciation of the diversity of the district,” Thornton says. “I think I bring a very fresh perspective to representing the people. I am excited to serve our community in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020.”
