Dee Thornton Receives Two National Endorsements to Ensure Equal Representation and Leadership for Hoosiers in Congress.

Carmel, IN, May 19, 2020 – Democratic candidate for Indiana’s Fifth Congressional district, Dierdre "Dee" Thornton, has received endorsements from the Congressional Black Caucus PAC (CBCPAC) and Higher Heights for America PAC just weeks ahead of the statewide presidential primary. The endorsements from these national organizations affirm Thornton’s commitment to leadership and equal representation in Congress.

“The CBCPAC is proud to endorse Dee Thornton in her bid for Congress in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District,” said Yolonda Addison, Executive Director of the CBCPAC. “Dee won the hearts and minds of the voters in Indiana in 2018 and she is poised to win the race this time. We believe that she has the skills and experience to serve the people of IN-5 as their next Congresswoman.”

“Everyday people should govern everyday people, and it’s time we elect a leader that works for every Hoosier.” said Thornton, who was also endorsed last week by Higher Heights of America, an organization dedicated to expanding Black Women’s elected representation and voting participation, and advance progressive policies. “History shows that when Black women gain political power, we champion policies that benefit multiple communities,” read a statement from the organization. “Higher Heights for America PAC strongly encourages its members to support Thornton’s campaign with their time, talent and resources.”

As a former business executive and candidate for the district, Thornton has been a longstanding community leader committed to tackling issues that impact every Hoosier. Thornton currently serves on the Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Human Relations in Carmel, Indiana where she works to bridge the gap between diverse communities, including working collaboratively with the police department to build better relationships with residents. Thornton also currently serves on the board of directors of Families First where she is an advocate for mental health, speaking regularly to high school students about the skills they need to succeed in the workforce, military or higher education.
